In the final update about its open sugarhouse, Great Mountain Forest says: “Just checked our sap tanks and there still isn’t enough sap. It ran a little today, but still not nearly enough. Regretfully, GMF will have to cancel its planned open sugarhouse again on Sunday. GMF welcomes and looks forward to sugarhouse visitors when the sap season is in progress. People can check out GMF on social media sites for sugarhouse updates.”
Here’s a chance to visit the Great Mountain Forest sugarhouse and see how sap is boiled down to make maple syrup…you might even get a sample! The season has to cooperate and the times may change, so check back here for updates or call the forestry office (860-542-5422) and listen to their message before going. You can enjoy skiing or hiking the forest trails that start near the sugarhouse whatever the weather.
If the sugarhouse is open, GMF tells us, they’ll be offering half-gallon jugs of syrup for the special price of $35, just during Weekend in Norfolk.
