SUMMARY:Iddi Saaka: West African Music & Dance Workshop for Children
DESCRIPTION:In West African societies dance is not just a pastime\, it is the very fabric on which the cultural norms\, values and aspirations of the people are inscribed. Iddi Saaka\, a native of Ghana\, is a versatile and award-winning West African performance artist who specializes in Ghanaian dance and music forms as well as contemporary dance. Children (K to 6) will be introduced to the general movement vocabulary of West Africa dance forms\, learn at least one traditional West African dance\, gain background knowledge of the dance\, learn to interpret drum rhythms and patterns and respond with their appropriate movements. \nSpace is limited to 20 children\, so please register here for this free program.

DESCRIPTION:Garet&Co is hosting two dance classes before its Sunday performance of “From All Angles.” This one-hour class for intermediate and advanced dancers is preceded by a one-hour class for beginners (ages 13 and up). At 3:30\, a pre-show performance will begin\, and the main performance starts at 4:00. For tickets\, click here. \nBoth classes are 60-minute contemporary dance classes led by Garet. They focus on breath and expansive movement throughout the body\, control and balance\, and storytelling through choreographic phrases.  \nNote: Videos and photos will be taken during class for marketing purposes.
