DESCRIPTION:We’re sorry\, Great Mountain Forest says the weather isn’t cooperating. There will not be enough sap collected for boiling for WIN weekend\, so this event is cancelled. \nGreat Mountain Forest‘s sugar house will be open to visitors\, provided there is enough sap to boil. The Forest has a 70-year tradition of collecting and boiling sap\, making maple syrup and bottling it for sale; its collection system and evaporator are thoroughly up to date\, but heat for boiling still comes from wood. GMF staff will be on hand to explain it all. We suggest visitors call ahead; as soon as staff know\, they will put a message on the forestry office answering machine (860-542-5422) indicating whether there is enough sap to boil. Cross your fingers!

DESCRIPTION:Come and spend a few hours with photographer Doug McDevitt for a picture perfect day in Norfolk. \nYou’ll learn different approaches to making more interesting photographs for either personal or artistic purposes. Learn the advantages of both film and digital photography\, how to better compose a photograph\, the interplay of light\, how to manipulate your camera to get the best results and much\, much more. The session will be in two parts. One hour in the Norfolk Hub and two hours on an actual photography walk in the City Meadow. Bring the camera (or cameras) that you wish to become more productive with\, and dress warmly as we will be outside for an extended period. With a few liberties\, the owners have recreated the original garden designed by Marian Coffin\, restoring the small\, formal parterre extending south from the house and executing the large double border below the west side of the house with the help of an early working plan. DESCRIPTION:When the owners\, both garden designers\, acquired the house and garden next door\, they decided to use the intervening woodland to link the two. Large shrubs and a lawn form a transition from the mature garden surrounding their original house into the woods beyond\, where an artful network of pathways and shade plantings leads to the second property or allows the visitor to explore. The gardens around the second house\, now their residence\, are being restored and expanded\, and the vegetable beds have been planted with a new variety of crops. \nPark on the road and walk up the driveway to take the loop from the first garden through the woods to the second garden\, and down its driveway to the road again.
