A special event designed to showcase the town’s many natural and cultural offerings.
Richard Byrne, Norfolk’s town historian, in conjunction with the Norfolk Rails to Trails Committee and Norfolk Land Trust, will lead a walk to the famed Stoney Lonesome Pass along the old rail road bed. Richard’s historical account of the old CNE railroad, abandoned more than 80 years ago, will include a fascinating re-creation of the great train derailment which took place here in March 1882. Meet at the trails entrance on Ashpohtag Road, the hike will last about an hour and a half. Please ware appropriate footwear for hiking through the woods and bring water.
The Rails to Trails Committee organizes a bike event, the Tour de Forest, in October. Learn more about it and the committee’s work on Sunday, August 6, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at their booth on Robertson Plaza.
