There will be an opening reception on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This show will be hanging until the end of August.

Photo show: Marie Hartig Kendall, Part II

Starting in 1884, photographer Marie Hartig Kendall chronicled the town of Norfolk and its environs in striking images that captured moving locomotives, historic weather events, economic development and bucolic pastimes. Many new photographs and objects have been added to this year’s exhibition. They include a rare photograph printed on glass and made to hang in a window, dozens of Kendall postcards recently acquired from a local estate and a look at the process of conserving period photographs.

Astrophotography Exhibit

This exhibit includes some of the earliest and rarest photographs taken of the heavens by astronomers, including antique maps of the heavens and photographs of The moon, comets, eclipses of the sun, the transit of Venus and the space shuttle. The show also contains photos taken by Matthew Johnson, an earth scientist, educator and astronomer who collectsf antique celestial photographs, maps of the heavens and items of historic interest to astronomy.

Tom Fahsbender and Richard Kessin will combine their demonstrations. Tom, an ardent fisherman and biology teacher, is interested in invertebrates and Rich Kessin, a biology teacher, has always been obsessed with microscopes. This year we take a close look at various invertebrates and then photograph them through the microscopes. As Yogi Berra once said, “You can see a lot just by looking.”
