Special Exhibit: The Romance of Worth

To usher in the 250th anniversary of the signing of The Declaration of Independence, the Norfolk Historical Society is kicking off the year with a small exhibition.The Romance of Worth: The Eldridge Sisters and the Centennial focuses on artifacts from one Norfolk family spanning 200 years. Isabella and Alice Eldridge were in their mid twenties during the nation’s Centennial celebration in 1876. They had made a European tour the year before and attended the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. The sisters each owned a beautiful bespoke gown from the renowned Paris atelier, the House of Worth. These two gowns are being exhibited for the first time.
